Trail racing in Canada is about to hit a new milestone with the launch of BORÉALYS Mont-Tremblant by UTMB, the first UTMB World Series event east of the Canadian Rockies. Taking place Aug. 14-16, 2026, the race weekend will feature three official UTMB categories: 100K, 50K and 20K, plus a 5K and an 80K relay supporting Quebec Epilepsy Association (AQE) and Tremblant Foundation.

As the newest stop on the UTMB World Series calendar, BORÉALYS will showcase Quebec’s rugged Laurentian terrain and dense boreal forest to runners from around the globe. Priority registration for UTMB Index holders opens Sept. 16, 2025, with general registration following on Sept. 18.

Powered by the local running community

The event is organized by Événements Harricana, a non-profit dedicated to growing trail and ultra-trail running in Quebec. More than just a race, BORÉALYS draws on local culture, weaving in the legend of the chasse-galerie (a flying canoe in Quebec folklore) to create a shared narrative: a symbolic pact between runners and the boreal forest throughout the weekend.

“We’re proud to highlight Quebec’s raw beauty, rich imagination and warm welcome,” says Samuel Matte-Thibault, general director for Événements Harricana. “Thanks to our collaboration with the UTMB World Series and the commitment of the Tremblant community, we’re offering a unique experience, deeply rooted here and open to the world.”

Catherine Poletti, president of UTMB Group and co-founder of HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, adds: “BORÉALYS is more than just another UTMB World Series stop. It embodies our philosophy of creating events that celebrate and respect their territories and stories. This is a passionate, deeply human collaboration that puts the local community at the heart of the project.”

Lasting impact beyond race weekend

The Relais des Géants, the weekend’s 80K relay, will give teams of runners the chance to make a tangible difference: BORÉALYS Mont-Tremblant by UTMB will partner with the AQE, a cause chosen in honour of Matte-Thibault’s daughter, who lives with epilepsy, and the Tremblant Foundation.

“Thanks to BORÉALYS Mont-Tremblant by UTMB, we’re turning the trails into spaces of solidarity,” says Dr. Dang Khoa Nguyen, president of AQE. “Seeing runners engage with our cause brings immense gratitude, hope and visibility to all families affected.”

Marie-Ève Dicaire Brunet, executive director of the Tremblant Foundation, noted that “Knowing that the runners’ energy translates directly into support for our youth is both touching and inspiring.”

A boost for Tremblant and Canada

In its first year, the event aims to welcome 3,000 runners and their supporters, with an estimated economic impact of up to $10 million.

Patrice Malo, president and chief operating officer for Mont-Tremblant, says they are proud to host this new race, “an event that celebrates both athletic excellence and the cultural richness of our region.”

Already a global destination for endurance athletes in all seasons, Mont-Tremblant is set to cement its place as a must-do stop on the North American trail-running calendar.
