Saucony Endorphin Pro 4
Carbon-plated racing shoe from Saucony with a combination of their PWRRUN HG and PWRRUN PB foam premium foams
The Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 is a race-day powerhouse built for elite speed and efficiency.
It features a groundbreaking fusion of PWRRUN HG and PWRRUN PB foams in the midsole that deliver a snappy responsiveness with smooth transitions.
A full-length carbon plate adds stiffness for maximum energy return and turnover, while Speedroll technology propels you forward with effortless momentum. Comfort isn’t sacrificed: the silky heel liner and integrated tongue system create a secure, sock-like fit. With its SRS insole and race-tuned geometry, the Pro 4 is engineered to help you chase PRs and feel fast doing it.
Saucony Endorphin Speed Series
Nylon-plated speed day shoe with energy-efficient PWRRUN PB foam
The Saucony Endorphin Speed is the training companion to Saucony’s premium carbon-plated racing model. It’s built for speed with a slightly more forgiving winged nylon plate that balances torsional rigidity with forefoot flexibility for a snappy, responsive ride.
This shoes features energy-returning PWRRUN PB foam combined with Speedroll technology that propels you forward effortlessly, while a full-length longitudinal groove promotes a smooth roll-through in your stride.
The engineered lightweight mesh upper offers breathable comfort, and the SRS sockliner adds plushness without bulk. With an 8mm offset (36mm heel / 28mm forefoot), this vegan-friendly shoe also incorporates recycled materials without giving up anything on performance.
Brooks Glycerin Max
A neutral shoe with maximum cushioning
With its dual-cell, nitrogen-infused foam midsole, the Glycerin Max delivers exceptional cushioning without compromising the responsiveness you need when you pick up the pace. The shoe achieves these seemingly contradictory qualities with its unique dual-sized cell construction in the midsole. Larger cells are used in the heel for better cushioning, while smaller cells in the forefoot provide surprisingly responsive toe-offs. The addition of a Brooks GlideRoll rocker geometry adds to the overall responsive feel by encouraging smooth and fast transitions. For the upper, Brooks has employed a tried-and-true engineered triple jacquard textile that securely hugs your foot while allowing for excellent breathability. As you would expect with a maximal shoe, the Glycerin Max has a very generous 45.25-mm heel stack and a 39.25-mm forefoot stack, resulting in 6 mm of drop. If you are in the market for a maximalist training shoe that does not sacrifice responsiveness, check out the Glycerin Max.
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24
A stability-oriented daily trainer
With its lightweight, nitrogen-infused DNA LOFT v3 midsole, the Adrenaline GTS 24 provides a responsive ride without compromising the plush cushioning and stability that runners have come to expect from this shoe. Brooks employs its unique GuideRails support system, which provides just enough medial stability without feeling intrusive. From a numbers perspective, the Adrenaline GTS 24 clocks in with a 36-mm heel and 24-mm forefoot stack, resulting in a 12-mm drop. The result is a shoe that will clearly appeal to heel strikers and provide plenty of cushioning and protection during longer runs. Up top, Brooks has used a plush engineered air mesh upper that easily conforms to your foot and delivers excellent breathability. Finally, underfoot, Brooks has used its long-lasting RoadTack rubber outsole, which has been sculpted to allow for a natural gait while retaining durability in high-wear areas. This is a great daily trainer for runners seeking additional stability without sacrificing comfort.
Saucony Ride 18
Reliable neutral cushioned shoe
The Ride 18 by Saucony is designed to to be your go-to shoe for everyday mileage. It features a reengineered PWRRUN+ midsole that delivers a softer, more responsive ride than previous iterations without sacrificing durability.
The Ride 18 comes equipped with increased XT-900 rubber coverage from heel to toe. This gives more durability and structure to the shoe while also giving it a little more grip in the outsole. There’s also some extra padding in the heel collar for step-in comfort and lockdown.
Perhaps the best update is that it boasts a noticeable weight reduction, dropping from 288 g (10.2 oz) in the Ride 17 to 255 g (9.0 oz) in a men’s size 9. This makes it light enough to handle longer runs or tempo efforts.
With an 8mm drop (37mm heel / 29mm forefoot), the Ride 18 maintains a balanced platform that supports neutral runners through everything from recovery jogs to uptempo days. The toebox feels secure and accommodating for most to help deliver a great lockdown.
Whether you’re logging base miles or heading out for a long run, the Ride 18 delivers a reliable performance with good durability and plenty of energy return.
Saucony Hurricane 24
A plush stability shoe
If you are looking for a plush, highly cushioned stability shoe, you need to check out the Hurricane 24. Built with a unique dual-cushioning midsole that features soft PWRRUN PB foam surrounded by a firmer layer of PWRRUN foam, the Hurricane 24 delivers a wonderful blend of cushioning and stability. This construction also avoids the somewhat obtrusive traditional medial post found in more conventional stability shoes. From a numbers perspective, the Hurricane 24 is clearly a max-cushion shoe; it has a 38-mm heel stack, 32-mm forefoot stack, and a 6-mm drop. In other words, very tried-and-true dimensions. Looking at the upper, Saucony has spec’d a durable and highly breathable engineered mesh that does an admirable job of hugging your foot. Finally, carefully placed rubber outsole pads provide excellent durability and traction while avoiding excess weight.
Asics GT-2000 13
An affordable classic stability shoe
As running shoes continue to evolve and become more expensive, it’s good to see companies like Asics are still producing affordable shoes that deliver exceptional performance at more accessible price points. The Asics GT-2000 13 epitomizes this sometimes difficult-to-achieve ideal. Built with a FF Blast+ midsole, rearfoot PureGEL cushioning and Asics’ 3D Guidance System, the GT-2000 13 provides the perfect combination of comfort, stability and durability that runners demand in a daily trainer. Heel strikers will also appreciate the shoe’s 8-mm drop, as well as the outsoles’ AHAR Plus heel rubber, which ensures excellent long-term durability. Up top, Asics has speced a jacquard mesh upper that hugs your foot while providing excellent breathability. If you are looking for a stability-oriented daily trainer that won’t break the bank, look no further. Heck, at this price, get two pairs!
Hoka Gaviota 5
A well-cushioned stability shoe
The latest version of the Gaviota delivers improved cushioning and less weight while still providing the stability required by runners who overpronate. Hoka achieves these qualities by employing a new H-Frame base that allows for the use of a softer EVA midsole foam. The Gaviota 5 also features a wider base, which further aids stability. Up top, Hoka has spec’d a creel jacquard upper that offers a foot-hugging fit and excellent breathability. It should be noted that the Gaviota 5 delivers a roomy forefoot–something wide-foot runners will particularly appreciate. For the outsole, Hoka has used a generous amount of durable rubber, ensuring excellent wear while maintaining a reasonable weight. Finally, the Gaviota 5 has a 6-mm drop, which will appeal to both heel- and forefoot-striking runners.
