A Strava employee was arrested Wednesday night after a violent altercation at a San Francisco restaurant, where she assaulted multiple staff members. The New York Post reported that the woman, identified as Shireen Afkari, was arrested on charges of public intoxication; later that evening, Strava confirmed Afkari’s employment had been terminated.

“We are aware of an employee who exhibited extremely concerning off-hours behaviour,” Strava wrote in an Instagram comment. “We don’t condone violence of any kind and this does not reflect the standards we expect of our team. This past Monday, we made the decision to end the individual’s employment.” According to her now-deleted LinkedIn page, Afkari formerly worked as a senior manager of growth marketing and retention.

The incident occurred at Hazie’s restaurant in the Hayes Valley neighbourhood of San Francisco.

Videos capture a violent attack

Videos shared online show Afkari filming and yelling at Hazie’s employees, alleging one of the bartenders had been harassing her; she is seen taunting and swearing at staff before hitting an individual who had been recording the incident. Afkari then lunged at another employee, who tackled her to the ground.

The footage then shows staff members forcefully escorting both Afkari and her male companion from the restaurant; upon her removal, patrons erupted into cheers and applause.

Outside the restaurant, Afkari continued to struggle with a staff member later identified as Miguel Marchese, wrestling with him, swatting at him and pulling his hair; several people attempted to pull the two apart and urged Afkari to let go. Afkari finally released Marchese, stating, “I’m not touching your boy,” before accusing him of taking her phone and chasing him; she tripped on Marchese’s leg and landed hard on the ground.
